Scarecrow Festival
Croeso i Llwyngwril.. Welcome
Gwyl Bwgan Brain
Over the Whit weekend in 2007 Llwyngwril, Friog and Fairbourne staged what we believe to be the first welsh scarecrow festival. We were invaded by scarecrows. The locals and tourists had a whale of a time tracking down all the entries and took advantage of all the entertainment in the villages. Here, you will see a small sample of the entries which were ingenious and immaginative, they were also highly ammusing and in the case of the "traffic cop" pretty scary!!!

They came back and bought their friends!!!
Well they must have enjoyed their stay last year because they returned for another fun packed week. Yet again Llwyngwril Friog and Fairbourne was invaded by scarecrows and this time there were even more of the happy fellows, (about 60 in all). The traffic cop and the lady at the gallery in charge of the notice board came back and bought with them, a friendly Welsh dragon, Dracula, Worzle gummage, a gardener, a window cleaner, a fisherman, and a decorator all on their holidays here... we had a black sheep, The Ground force team put in an appearance, a dalek, as well as several lads and lasses just lounging around. Exibits also included St George and the dragon, Indiana Jones, a golfer a clown, a lifeboat man, The railway children, Harry Potter, a ghost and a princess to name but a few, so you see we had a great turnout.
The main events in Llwyngwril were The big night out at the Ganolfan on the first Saturday. This was a great success and a very enjoyable night out. A disco was followed by live music and there was a feast included in the price.
The Gallery hosted a childrens entertainer and was also the venue for the colouring competition. The finale event was on Sunday 1st June and was again very well supported. The winners of the scarecrow competition were awarded their prizes and we had an afternoon of races for adults and children with welly wanging and the afternoon was rounded off by a tug of war. We would like to say a big thank you to the school for allowing us to use their premises. Refreshments were on sale and Debbie opened up the Gallery afterwards for the sale of Ice creams with the money going to the school fund. All in all the festival was a success again.
I wonder what will happen next year...watch this space

The Big Night Out, Llwyngwril Scarecrow Festival
A variety evening was arranged on Saturday 24th May in Y Ganolfan to raise funds for Y Ganolfan and Ysgol Llwyngwril.
The organiser’s intention was to stage something a bit different. The result was an evening of excellent food and superb entertainment.
Two groups of local children wowed the audience with dance displays to start the ball rolling, the Jolly Roger Roadshow made sure that the evening stayed lively and very entertaining. The Boggy Mountain Boys went down a storm when they played out the evening with a good mix of music. Even one of the local scarecrows came to join in the fun and was a big hit with kids and adults alike.
The event raised £518 so a big thank you to all those who donated food and prizes, including prizes from Corris Craft Centre, Tywyn Cinema and Adrenalin Antics.
A special thank you to those who helped organise and set up the event, too many to name individually.
